Who is ‘Do Science, Tanzania’?

This project was conceived of and created by Diana Hall, a physics teacher from Bell High School, Ottawa, CANADA.

Diana Has been Physics teaching for 20 years in Canada, the United States and Mexico.  She has been extensively involved in Professional Development over her career through the Ontario Association of Physics Teachers, the American Association of Physics Teachers, the Ottawa Carleton Disctrict School Board Science Council and the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

Her classroom is alive visually with toys and clocks, many apparently random objects.  It was ‘designed’ to stimulate students to ask, wonder and think about the world around them. 

The mind is a stubborn thing and breaking it of preconceptions can be like an unstoppable force meeting an imovable object.  Even when faced with unquestionable evidence a person can convince themselves that what they see isn’t real…….”If I didn’t believe it, I wouldn’t have seen it.”

Doing Science is an essential part of learning about science.  Teaching without resources to demonstrate investigate concepts must be incredibly frustrating.   I imagine students might go away not believing, and certainly not appreciating, the true beauty of the world and the universe and sadly not even knowing what they are walking away from…This is the motivation for the project ‘Do Science, Tanzania.’
